St. Louis, MO, September 7, 2008 – The Hope Light Foundation announces the successful launching of the first Hope Light Project in Metropolis, Illinois. The Hope Light consists of a 35’ high lighthouse conical tower with an attached Cancer Information Center. The tower will contain an operating flashing white-light beacon in a lantern room located on top of the tower.
The Cancer Information Center will provide a unique, comfortable and compassionate environment for trained volunteers to meet with visitors and direct them to helpful Cancer awareness information and resources to increase knowledge and lighten the burden of Cancer. The volunteers will include Cancer survivors and oncology professionals who can relate to visitors feelings about Cancer and can provide emotional support.
The Center will focus on healthy lifestyles, Cancer prevention and awareness of Cancer signs and symptoms, self-exams and screening tests to help in early Cancer detection. If Cancer is detected and treated early while in the organ of origin, there is hope for survivability and a cure.
